As you climb up the famous Mall road to the tourist heart of Darjeeling you will discover Hotel and Restaurant Shangri-la. Just a few minutes walk away from most of the sites and attractions, this small family run hotel and extensive restaurant is the ideal place to stay in Darjeeling to soak up the atmosphere and take in the breath taking views.

The hotel is owned by a Tibetan, Ranjan Lama, who owns the very popular hotel Shangri-la Regency, also in Darjeeling. Both hotels are run on the same principles: personal service, cleanliness, and excellent value for money.

Originally built by the British, the exterior of the building retains the aura of the British Raj, whist the interiors have been completely refurbished to create a modern yet welcoming atmosphere. The hotel has a spacious reception area with slate floors, sand stone walls and stylish wicker sofas. There is a separate entrance to the rooms which are all on the first floor.

The four large Attic Suite rooms have all been recently renovated. With wooden floors, bay windows, large comfortable beds and en-suite facilities they are the perfect place to rest after a busy day’s sightseeing.

The attractive restaurant has an extensive menu, serving freshly prepared Chinese, Indian and Tibetan cuisine in a modern setting with traditional features such as hand painted Tibetan Thankas.

During the spring and summer months there’s no better place to sit and watch the world go by than our terrace. During the winter you may prefer to keep cosy next to the traditional open fires in the restaurant.
